Elephant Park

The next day, I got up bright and early to go to the Elephant park. I had seen it in a brochure, and it was a pretty much all day thing, so I had to leave in the morning, and come back in the afternoon. I arranged to go alone (since noone else wanted to ride an Elephant...what was wrong with them!?) but thankfully another family was interested and we all headed out with our driver at about 8am. About 2 hours later, and a nice snooze in the car, we arrived. It was easy to get tickets, but then I really didnt understand what I should do next. They had someone to walk us over to the elephant rides, and you had to go through this lovely wilderness. Bali is a tropical island after all, and it was very obvious. We took a nice scenic walk through the trees, and along the walk were all sorts of strange elephant sculptures, little ponds, and rain water collection points. After you exit the jungle part, you get to where the main buildings are, the elephant arena, the restaurant, and the shop. They sit in lovely straw roofed buildings around a lake that the elephants play in.Then farther beyond that is where the elephants are kept. For the majority of the time in a large (huge) open area, with the majority of the trees cut down, so they have place to roam. If you like, you can stay in the hotel here, or even have your honeymoon, and the terraced houses are right at the level for seeing the elephants, and they can come play while you are on your balcony. Even farther beyond is more jungle....
